On most Minecraft servers you build something, and what you built is yours alone. Here the map is shared. Sovereign MC is a geopol Minecraft server on Java Edition 1.21 where land changes hands, and the story of a season is a list of towns that were taken.

What geopol means here

Geopolitics is competition between organised groups for territory that matters. On this server the groups are nations and their towns, and the competition runs on a permanent map rather than in a match that resets. A nation exists because its players claimed land, kept it, and chose to be attacked.

What makes this a geopol server rather than a survival server is that the stakes are other people's work. The fort you storm was built by someone with the same resources you have, and the land you win keeps its value afterwards — you inherit the farms, the industry and the town that came with it.

How a war runs

  1. Declare. A nation picks a named target and declares war on it. The declaration is public, and both sides get to prepare.
  2. Stage. Attacker and defender gather forces: siege crews, cannons, siege equipment, vehicles and ships. Logistics decide as much as combat does.
  3. Take towns. The attacker moves on the defender's settlements, and a town falls when the town hall and its claims are destroyed.
  4. Score. Holding territory and surviving the required number of sessions builds war score. That score is what the war is won on.
  5. Peace. A nation can accept peace, or the war plugin can enforce it when the score settles the outcome. Either way, the war stops.

Every siege, capture and surrender is written to the public war log, so the live sieges page is a running history of the server rather than a scoreboard that resets.

Contested regions

Some regions on the map are permanently contested and are not owned until a battle decides them. The PvP regions page shows which nation currently holds each one and when a battle is running there.

How to start playing

Connect to play.sovereignmc.net, follow the spawn guides, and claim a town. Read the server rules before you start a war, and the war guide when you take your first town. The Sovereign MC IP page has the connection steps.

Common questions

What does geopol mean on Sovereign MC?
Geopolitics played out in Minecraft: persistent towns and nations competing for the same map, declaring wars on named targets, and taking territory that stays taken. Politics between players is the game, not a side activity.
How is a geopol Minecraft server different from survival?
Survival is you against the map. On Sovereign MC the map is the shared prize: resources are worth taking because someone else built them, and the strongest claim on a piece of land is the one you can defend in a siege.
How do wars work?
A nation declares war on a named target, both sides stage forces, and the fight is settled over several sessions of sieging. The attacker takes towns by moving and destroying them with cannons, siege equipment and vehicles; holding territory builds war score.
Can a war just end?
Yes. A nation may accept peace, and the war plugin can enforce it when the score or the conditions call for it. Every outcome, surrender and capture is written to the public war log.
Do I need to be good at PVP to play?
No. Town building, industry, trade, diplomacy and logistics are all real progression here, and a nation wins wars with supply lines and alliances as often as with siege crews.
